Our Week in the Word segment this week comes from Pastor Philip Brown, our college and single’s pastor.
There is Nothing Better:
Isaiah 55, Psalm 1, and Eph 4
As I sat down at breakfast enjoying Conners and I’s traditional sausage and eggs, we began singing. This was something you did not do at the table growing up, but you don’t stop a moment like this when you and your 9 yr old son are singing “there is nothing better than you” at 7:30 in the morning (Graves into Gardens Elevation Worship).
It ended up being a great teaching tool for me to talk about the word contentment. As I kept singing the song I realized how the song did a great job of linking some passages I had been reading and meditating on through the past few weeks; Philippians 4, Psalm 1, Isaiah 55.
Isaiah 55 tells us that we can go and spend our time and money on things that don’t ultimately satisfy us and that we should seek Him! Psalm 1 reminds us that if we delight in the Lord we will be strong like a tree planted by streams of water. Then in Philippians 4:10-13 Paul shares about finding the secret of being content by being in Christ.
As I find myself having the tendency to criticize and complain about my own life, I find that this passage is very convicting. Here are some quick conclusions.
- Contentment in Christ has no room for complaints.
2. Situations don’t dictate satisfaction when it is in Christ.
I pray that you can take this little glimpse into my growth and encourage you in yours. Be sure to ask and share your personal Bible studies with each other. When done, it is a way to testify of what God is doing in your life to your brothers and sisters in Christ as well as the lost.
Because of Him,
Pastor Philip
