NAOBC For Life Spotlight – Lori Hyde Jones
When you are a member at NAOBC, no matter where God takes you, the love for NAOBC remains. It’s part of your DNA. Periodically we’ll spotlight women who were former members – see where they are today and what NAOBC means to them. Today we’re meeting Lori Hyde Jones.
Q: Tell a little about yourself – family, occupation (if applicable), etc.
A: I’m married to Mike Jones and I am a nail technician out of my home.
Q: When did you attend NAOBC? What brought you to NAOBC?
A: I attended from 1963-1997. I was born into the nursery at 9th & O. My parents grew up in the youth at the church after moving to Louisville for my grandfathers to both work for the railroad. Both the Gambrell’s and the Hyde’s we very involved in building the church. They were both very large families and served as deacons, Bible study coordinators, bus pastors, ministers of education & children’s ministers at 9th & O. I spent many years under Laverne Butler as pastor and David Butler was my youth pastor. I was saved at the age of eight and baptized by Bro. Butler.
Q: Where did you serve while at NAOBC?
A. I was lucky to also serve in the youth with my father, Frank Hyde, and Jeff Elieff until I left to serve at another church.

Q: What memory from your time at NAOBC means the most to you still today?
A. I was lucky to have Martha Sirles as one of my leaders all the years in the youth group. I continued to be able to work with her for years doing nails at the shop that she worked in, and then to also get into mischief with her as we worked with the high school kids. Martha and my father were the biggest influences in my life at 9th & O.
Q: What is one thing you loved about NAOBC?
A: The 34 years I spent there were clearly the best of my life. The many friendships made during that time still are greatly cherished. I would not be the person I am today without the many hands and hearts that led me there.
