NAOBC For Life Spotlight – Kate Smith

When you are a member at NAOBC, no matter where God takes you, the love for NAOBC remains. It’s part of your DNA. Periodically we’ll spotlight women who were former members – see where they are today and what NAOBC means to them. Today we’re meeting Kate Smith.

Q: Tell a little about yourself – family, occupation (if applicable), etc.

A: I am originally from Los Lunas, New Mexico. I moved to Kentucky to attend Southern Seminary and attended NAOBC pretty much from the start. I met my husband, Drew, through school and church. We now have two amazing children. I am a Mathematical Analyst for a Louisville-based company, Schneider Electric. I was able to continue working for them even after we moved away (praise the Lord).

Q: When did you attend NAOBC? What brought you to NAOBC?

A: I attended NAOBC August 2014 until we moved out of state July 2021. I was actually deciding between Immanuel Baptist Church and Clifton Baptist Church when I first moved to Louisville, but one Sunday I was sick (not contagious sick 😄) and decided to attend NAOBC since it was located down the street from me. I never attended another church after that!

Q: Where did you serve while at NAOBC?

A: I helped in the Nursery and Youth small groups before getting married. Once married, Drew became the Youth Pastor and I served alongside him Sunday and Wednesday.

Q: What memory from your time at NAOBC means the most to you still today?

A: The first Sunday I visited NAOBC I had every intention of staying invisible (since I was visiting a couple of other churches at the time and was not feeling well). But a few gals from the Singles Ministry spotted me and invited me to lunch. It was the most welcomed I had ever felt at a church. I think I went home with four new friend contacts, and you better believe they reached out to me that week, too! That is still a very sweet memory to me.

Q: What is one thing you loved about NAOBC?

A: The welcoming atmosphere and friendships. NAOBC has a special way of encouraging and fostering a uniquely welcoming church.
