NAOBC For Life Spotlight – Diane Maxey

When you are a member at NAOBC, no matter where God takes you, the love for NAOBC remains. It’s part of your DNA. Periodically we’ll spotlight women who were former members – see where they are today and what NAOBC means to them. Today we’re meeting Diane Maxey.

Q: Tell a little about yourself – family, occupation (if applicable), etc.

A: I am retired and living in Delray Beach, FL. My husband, Larry, and I moved there to be near my son, James, and two granddaughters. Larry passed away in 2015, but we both felt NAOBC was always our “home” church. I am a member of First Baptist Church, Delray Beach, where I served on various committees and led women’s Bible studies prior to the pandemic.

Q: When did you attend NAOBC? What brought you to NAOBC?

A: We were members of NAOBC from 2002-2012 having initially been invited by Carol and Robert Golden. Looking back, I saw God’s hand in leading us there as I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer just a week after we joined. The love and care from so many in this church family was such a comfort to my family and me during a very difficult time

Q: Where did you serve while at NAOBC?

A: I was blessed to serve on the Women’s Committee during my time there and recall many wonderful events and programs. My walk with the Lord was strengthened by being led by such wonderful teachers and pastors. I also was privileged to teach alongside Martha Sirles and Betty McClung in the Senior Ladies’ Class.

Q: What memory from your time at NAOBC means the most to you still today?

A: As I write this, I am flooded with memories of people that have meant so much to me in my Christian walk. One couple, Nick and Jennifer Miersma, holds a special place in my heart. NAOBC put us together to walk with them in their newly married life. What a blessing they were as we “adopted” each of them during their time at NAOBC.

Q: What is one thing you loved about NAOBC?

A: Although impossible to name one thing, I guess the thing I loved about NAOBC, would be “love of the Lord.” It was evident in everything there, from preaching, teaching, serving, worshipping, and reaching the community. That love was reflected in everything. I experienced it firsthand and saw the ripple effects throughout my ten years. God is good.
