NAOBC For Life Spotlight – Christine Fiske
When you are a member at NAOBC, no matter where God takes you, the love for NAOBC remains. It’s part of your DNA. Periodically we’ll spotlight women who were former members – see where they are today and what NAOBC means to them. Today we’re meeting Christine Fiske.
Q: Tell a little about yourself – family, occupation (if applicable), etc.
A: My husband Henry is currently the Pastor for First Baptist Church Pulaski, in Pulaski, VA. I am 49, and a 23 year retired musician from the Army and National Guard. I am currently a busy pastor’s wife, a stay at home mom and I homeschool our two boys, Lukas, 14, and Jacob, 10. Last fall I started, and am the director of, a homeschool co-op, hosted by our church, which currently has 25 families attending.
Q: When did you attend NAOBC? What brought you to NAOBC?
A: We attended NAOBC from the Spring of 2012- 2017, while my husband was in Seminary at Southern. We were searching for a church to attend, to rest at, as we were coming into Seminary from serving for 14 years and were kind of burned out. Plus, I was pregnant with our 2nd … Barry Joslin met us our first Sunday visit, and called the following week to say thanks for visiting. Larry Buchanan showed up at the hospital just a few weeks later when I gave birth to our youngest boy, even though my name was unknown to him, and he admits he was ready to go home. But, he said, the Holy Spirit said GO, so he went. I was so grateful!!! Wow!! And then Heidi Love, whom I’d met and bonded with at a local playground, also came by!! We’d never been loved on by a church before, let alone folks who had just met us. God’s grace and love poured out … and we were sold on NAOBC.

Q: Where did you serve while at NAOBC?
A: I served in the Nursery and in the Preschool ministry regularly as a sub, and I sang with the Worship Team under Dr. Barry Joslin. I also led the music for VBS for 4 seasons while working with Vanessa Simms- such beautiful memories and tons of fun!
Q: What memory from your time at NAOBC means the most to you still today?
A: Oh there are so many!! And I was impacted by so many amazing people!! My favorite memories (I don’t have just one!) are of our summer VBS worship times and Family Nights, of Lukas growing up in his faith through amazing Sunday School teaching, and both boys experiencing Awana; serving in the Children’s’ Choir with Karen Sizemore, an incredible mentor for me, being part of the Praise Team on Sundays and especially for the Women’s Conferences, singing with Kellie Whitford, Chanda Brown, and other amazing women!
Q: What is one thing you loved about NAOBC?
A: What I loved MOST about NAOBC was – is- the health of the church. Unapologetically biblical in every fiber of every ministry, standing on the Word. Strong leadership. Defined vision and mission. Focused efforts to unite the church as ONE body toward a goal, each year. Such fantastic mentoring for us all, in so many ways!! We have since been through some hardships in our current church and are so grateful for the godly example of the leadership there, as they walked through difficult church discipline, and amazing celebrations … we experienced fantastic mentoring and weren’t even aware of the tools the Lord was giving us, until we needed to reflect and use them! God has done and continues to do a mighty work at NAOBC; not only in the community of Louisville, but in equipping the saints for the works of ministry, throughout the USA, and dare I say, even internationally through mission support, etc. I am – we both are – eternally grateful for the calling the Lord put on our hearts to attend and serve at NAOBC.
