NAOBC For Life Spotlight – Amy Magloughlin
When you are a member at NAOBC, no matter where God takes you, the love for NAOBC remains. It’s part of your DNA. Periodically we’ll spotlight women who were former members – see where they are today and what NAOBC means to them. Today we’re meeting Amy Maghloughlin.
Q: Tell a little about yourself – family, occupation (if applicable), etc.
A: I’m married to Nate Magloughlin. We’ll celebrate our 25th anniversary in May of this year. We have three kids: Jackson (20), a student at North Greenville University in SC; Garrison (almost 18), a Senior in high school; and Annison (14), an 8th grader. We currently live in Amarillo, TX, where Nate has served as the Senior pastor for almost 17.5 years. I have been a stay-at-home mom since Jackson was born, primarily devoting my time to our family and serving in our church in various capacities—teaching Sunday school, leading discipleship groups, Women’s Bible study, student ministry, and worship choir and praise team.
Q: When did you attend NAOBC? What brought you to NAOBC?
A: We attended NAOBC from the Fall of 2001-Fall of 2004. We moved to Louisville so Nate could attend Southern. We visited 3 churches before NAOBC, and as soon as we visited NAOBC for the first time, we knew that would be our church home. Interestingly, there were only a few seminary couples there when we joined.

Q: Where did you serve while at NAOBC?
A. While at NAOBC, we both worked in the nursery, Nate co-taught a Sunday school class and was a pastoral intern for assimilation, and I was involved in choir, praise team, and helping lead worship for the singles gathering.
Q: What memory from your time at NAOBC means the most to you still today?
A: I have so many fond memories of our time at NAOBC, but it’s hard to narrow them down to one. My first memory is the first day we visited. Jaylynn introduced herself to us and then connected us with another young couple so we could sit with them. Another memory was how much the church as a whole welcomed us in as seminary people and loved on us as their own. Some of the older couples – the Goldens, specifically – were interested in us. Another fond memory is that even though we were on our way out in order for Nate to take his first pastorate position in South Carolina, I was pregnant then, and several ladies from the church threw me a beautiful baby shower. We also met some of our lifelong friends while at NAOBC.
Q: What is one thing you loved about NAOBC?
A: I loved so many things about NAOBC, especially Dr. Cook and Jaylynn. They have been and still are models and mentors for us in how to do effective ministry as pastors and pastors’ wives. I loved Dr. Cook’s preaching and his encouragement for us as seminary students to get involved in serving and incorporating ourselves into the life and body of the church. I loved the wide range of ages at NAOBC, the church’s love for one another and newcomers, and the people’s flexibility in following Dr. Cook’s and Jeff’s leadership. I loved the generosity and hospitality of so many members there. I loved the practical classes offered on Wednesday nights. I loved the Women’s Bible studies, taught by Jessica Joslin and others, and the women’s conferences taught by Jaylynn.
