NAOBC at Home – Brooke Hinkson

As women, we thrive in a community that supports our spiritual growth and daily lives. Whether married or single, young or old, we all value good recipes and life tips. Today, we’re fortunate to hear from Brooke Hinkson, a fellow NAOBC member on some of her favorite tips.

Brooke and her husband, Ethan, became members of NAOBC in early 2021. In 2024, the Lord blessed them with a son, Conner. They attend YC3 and serve in the children’s ministry. You can read more about Brooke here.

Dealing with stains and doing laundry is always a challenge. I’ve found peroxide is perfect for cleaning blood stains on clothes. Thanks to fellow new mom, Savannah McDonald, she taught me to use Dawn dish soap to clean baby poo stains and greasy stains. These shared experiences in our community make us feel connected and supported.

Since I work part-time outside the home, meal planning is vital and makes my life easier. Here are a few ideas I’ve used:

  • Use ground beef with spaghetti and meat sauce the first night and serve it with a salad. The next night have tacos. Also, you can chop a whole head of lettuce for both nights – the first night for salad and then shred the remaining as a topping for the tacos the next night.
  • Serve the pulled pork BBQ style with macaroni and cheese and baked beans as your side on the first night. The second night has pork carnitas with cilantro, pineapple, and corn tortillas.
  • Rotisserie chicken can be served one night with your favorite southern sides, such as carrots, mashed potatoes, etc. On the second night, there are many options! You can use the remaining chicken in chicken tortilla soup, chicken and dumplings, chicken quesadillas, etc. If you buy your rotisserie chicken from Sam’s, that’s $5 and enough meat for two dinners, depending on the size of your family.

Finally, easy decor tips make life easier and spruce up our home. One of the cutest little things I’ve seen done is hanging a seasonal garland on the wall near the dinner table. In the fall season, you can attach leaves to a string for that season and change it to different seasons. This decor tip is a resourceful and affordable way to decorate your dining area.
