Meet the Women of NAOBC – Katie McCollum

On Mondays, we’ll take time to meet the women of NAOBC. Five questions followed by how you can connect with the NAOBC women on social media. Our inaugural interview is with Katie McCollum. So let’s get started!

Q: Tell us about yourself

A: I’ve been married to Cole for almost ten years now! We have two children, Ephram (6) and Emerie (4). My hardest and best occupation is being a wife/momma/teacher! I love that I am able to stay home with and homeschool my children through Classical Conversations. I also get to work part time evenings and weekends. I work by myself at my job so I find the alone time and silence so refreshing and enjoyable. :-) When I’m not schooling or working, I enjoy taking walks, reading, and all things coffee related.

Q: Tell us about your time at NAOBC

A: I’ve been at NAOBC for ten years. I can honestly say I have never loved a church body as much as I do Ninth and O! We’ve been a part of YC2 BFG since we got married. Now, we’re not really a super young couple anymore, but we renamed our BFG “Forever Young YC2” this year and I appreciate the opportunity to continue to pretend I’m in my 20’s. My favorite place to serve at our church is the preschool check-in desk. I love getting to see everyone as they come in for services and meeting new families and children when they visit!

Q: What is a fun fact that many people don’t know about you?

A; I have a not-so-secret love for 80’s music and dance parties at home or in the car. It already embarrasses my children and that makes me feel like I’m doing my job as a Mom.

Q: What woman has made the most impact on your life?

A: My Mom has made a huge impact in my life. When I think about her, the word “present” comes to mind. She is so faithful to make herself available for every event, every celebration, and every season of suffering – even over long distances – whether that is in person or just being available night and day to answer a phone call or text. I think I often forget what a gift it is to others to just be present with them and also for them. Her presence is a great blessing to me that has only grown sweeter as I get older.

Q: What has the Lord taught you over the past year?

A: I was diagnosed with a chronic illness in late 2016 and the last four years have been a roller coaster of health issues and emotion for me (and my family by proxy.) The Lord has been so immensely gracious to me by teaching me the meaning of long-suffering, showing me what it truly means to depend on and be in real community, and making me long for heaven in a way that I never would have without the trial. I have learned (and am still continually learning) that to be in a place of suffering, but to be trusting God and communing with Him in that suffering, is of so much more value than having never suffered at all.
