Meet the Women of NAOBC – Gail Dennison

On Mondays, we’ll take time to meet the women of NAOBC. Five questions followed by how you can connect with the NAOBC women on social media. Today’s interview is with Gail Dennison.

Q: Tell us about yourself

A: Mike and I married and blended our family almost 29 years ago. My step-daughter, Leslie, teaches elementary school and has blessed us with four granddaughters. Kayley is a 19-year-old college student with a full-time job. Emily is 16 and a high school junior. Bella is a 12-year-old middle schooler and Lucy just turned 10. My son, Wes, started his career as a special education teacher and currently is a middle school assistant principal. He and daughter-in-love, Cindy, have blessed us with three-year-old Winnie, and 10-month old Marcie. I worked in healthcare for close to 40 years; taking early retirement in 2017 to care for Winnie and spend more time with my granddaughters and extended family.

Q: Tell us about your time at NAOBC

A: My Mom (Marcella Downing) started bringing me to NAOBC when I was nursery age so I’m a long-time member. I accepted Christ and was baptized nearly 52 years ago at the age of 10. We had a very large and active youth group and I was blessed to go on many choir trips, mission trips and retreats. Through the years I’ve served as Youth Department Secretary, Library committee member, choir member, and nursery worker. I also served on the Relocation Committee that selected the property where our church is now located. I love NAOBC!

Q: What is a fun fact that most people wouldn’t know about you?

A: My husband says it’s that I love the sports and teams he loves and we enjoy watching on TV and traveling to attend the occasional game together. I also love old movies and musicals.

Q: What woman has made the most impact in your life?

A: There have been and still are so many wonderful Christian women who have been there for me during the seasons of life. My first is, of course, my Mom, Marcella Downing. She made sure my sister and I were at church every time the doors were open. She always had a full-time job and I saw how she made it all work. My second is Lillian Butler, our former Pastor Laverne Butler’s wife. She taught the young married couples class and mentored me as a young adult and through some trying times.

Q: What is something the Lord has taught you in the last year?

A: Be quiet, be still, pray, listen, and wait. This las year has been challenging with all that is going on with the pandemic and our country. So many things have come at us. But God is still on His throne and in control and we, as Christians, are blessed to know how this story will end.
