Meet the Women at NAOBC – Whitney Hopperton

On Mondays, we’ll take time to meet the women of NAOBC. Five questions followed by how you can connect with the NAOBC women on social media. Today’s interview is with Whitney Hopperton.

Q: Tell us about yourself

A: I have been married to my husband, Derek, for almost 14 years. We are proud parents of 3 kiddos (Ella, Marcus, Katie Jane). I serve as the Family Ministry Assistant for NAOBC. I love spending time with my family. I enjoy sports and cheer for the UK Wildcats and Cincinatti Bengals. I enjoy eating out, Target Trips, and Diet Coke!

Q: Tell us about your time at NAOBC

A: Our family has been at NAOBC since October 2020. We are a part of IC1 where I serve as Fellowship Coordinator. I also serve in the Preschool Ministry at the Welcome Center Desk.

Q: What is a fun fact that most people wouldn’t know about you?

A. I have never been good at riding a bike! It’s been hard teaching my kids something I dont really know how to do!

Q: What woman has made the most impact in your life?

A: When we moved to Louisville 13 years ago, I met Mrs. Renee. She quickly became my Louisville mom, caring deeply for me and my family. She would have us over for dinner, meet me for coffee, help with our moves, and take care of our young kiddos for us to have a date night. She even allowed us to live in her basement for a time while our house was being built. She fully embodies Biblical hospitality! All of these things were amazing about Renee, but the biggest impact she’s had on my life has been in her love for the Lord, His word, and her dedication to prayer. She has modeled for me what it looks like to follow Jesus in all circumstances. She’s called me to pray for me before a big medical test. She’s mailed cards to me with a little pick me up when I was struggling in motherhood or feeling lonely. She’s given me the tough love needed when my sin struggles became excuses for my time in the Word or with the Lord. I am thankful for Mrs. Renee’s impact on my life and I pray that I am able to have that same impact on others!

Q: What is something the Lord has taught you in the last year?

A: The Lord has been teaching me that I am not in control. OUCH! I love my planner, making plans, thinking ahead, dreaming big. And while there isn’t anything wrong with planning and being prepared, there is something wrong when my heart begins to gravitate towards thinking I hold it all together- that I’m in control. Ultimate control and power belongs to the Lord, and I have found rest in knowing that when things feel chaotic and crazy to me, He’s not chaotic or crazy. In Him, we can trust that He is faithful, that He provides, that He is the giver of all good things! I can trust His control and power over mine, even when my plans don’t align to what He has. This is where we pray, Lord align my heart to your plans. I surrender! His plans are better- trust HIM!
