Meet the Women at NAOBC – Shirley Moskovich

On Mondays, we’ll take time to meet the women of NAOBC. Five questions followed by how you can connect with the NAOBC women on social media. Today’s interview is with Shirley Moskovich.

Q: Tell us about yourself

A: I was born and raised in southeast Pennsylvania and after graduating college in northeast Pennsylvania, I stayed in that college town until I was 67. Having married right after college, I taught for eight years in the public school system until I gave birth to our first son. Because we built our own two homes ourselves, I never returned to teaching but did work at a Credit Union for 16 yrs after the children were in school. After my younger son was killed in a car accident in 2015, I moved to Louisville to be close to my other son and his family. They had lived here for 10 years and suggested Ninth & O to me. I’m so grateful they did! I’ve always been an outdoor person and love all sports, mostly as a spectator now! I have four grandsons ( 18, 16, 15, 11 ) here and a grandson (15) and granddaughter (11) in Pennsylvania. I attended church all my life but was not saved until 2001 after my divorce! The LORD put me to my knees and I’m so glad he did!

Q: Tell us about your time at NAOBC

A: I’m in the Senior Ladies BFG and teach once a month. I so appreciate the Pastors and Leaders here and their keeping us focused on the main thing—-Truth, Worship, Missions and Community——all to honor God! I also value our priorities of loving the LORD, His Word and His people, including spreading His Good News to others here and abroad. Three other things I really like about NAOBC are the worshipful music ministry, the down-to-earth brothers and sisters and the emphasis on discipleship and servanthood. Bottom line, we’re all here to serve God, love, encourage, and serve those He puts in our path, right?! Praise the LORD!

Q: What is a fun fact that most people wouldn’t know about you?

A: For the first home we built, I worked with an older friend on all the electrical supply to the home. I then took a course at the local Voc-Tech School on wiring a home. When the home was finished, we sold it and designed a tri-level home where I planned and put in all the electrical work. But don’t ask me anything about wiring today! The old saying, “If you don’t use it, you lose it” is very true in my case!! By the way, each home took 7-10 yrs to finish—-well worth it, though!

Q: What woman has made the most impact in your life?

A: I had a very godly older neighbor lady who cared and loved on me in the most needy time in my life—thru my divorce. After being a Catholic for 28 yrs of marriage (because my husband was Catholic), she patiently led me to try an independent Bible Church. And that is where I was saved in 2001 hearing expository preaching and being under good godly, biblical teaching in Sunday School. Can you imagine when she asked me if I was “saved” and had a “ personal relationship with the LORD”, I had no clue what she was talking about?!

Q: What is something the Lord has taught you in the last year?

A: I would say to speak less and listen more. And also to care and love on people more as a priority, so that, LORD willing, they can know the love and assurance of God that i have. As I’ve made Scripture reading a priority in my life, He has made it come alive in a way I would have never imagined. And He has given me a peace with life circumstances only He could do!
