Meet the Women at NAOBC – Rebekah Baker

On Mondays, we’ll take time to meet the women of NAOBC. Five questions followed by how you can connect with the NAOBC women on social media. Today’s interview is with Rebekah Baker.

Q: Tell us about yourself

A: My husband Brian and I have been married for 11 years and have five sweet kids: Karis, Joelle, Lydia, Jonathan, and Silas. I stay home with our kids, homeschool them, and manage our home; this is my favorite job out of all the jobs I’ve had by far.

Q: How long have you been at NAOBC? BFG? Areas where you serve?

A: We moved from Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Louisville in January 2023 to attend Southern Seminary and have been at Ninth and O Baptist Church since July of 2023. We are in the YC6 BFG. I substitute in the children’s Sunday School classes during 2nd Service about once a month (typically in the 2nd grade class).

Q: What is a fun fact that most people wouldn’t know about you?

A: I grew up in Idaho and am the middle of five children.

Q: What woman has made the most impact in your life?

A: I am glad you asked this; it allows me to reflect on the Lord’s goodness. I have had many different women impact my life in different seasons and areas, so here it goes! My older sister was the most influential person in my life growing up. She knew her younger sisters were watching and following her lead, which impacted her decisions as a teenager (talk about maturity!) – and even now, she is the boldest Christian I know; she has taught me to fear God and not man. There were/are a handful of women at our home church in New Mexico from whom I have gleaned many things that have helped shape me as a Christian woman: Connie Kelly (who also, along with Gayle, helped us with our wedding, since my family was in another state – we are forever grateful to them for this), Gayle Rierson (an example of hospitality, who invited a complete stranger (me) into her home for four months), and Melba Junick were pretty influential in teaching me good doctrine through a systematic theology class; Sophia Cisar was an excellent model of a godly, submissive wife, and just a good example of a humble Christian in general; Rachel Morris is home-maker extraordinaire, using her talents and education (she has a Master’s in Biochemistry – I think?, and was a Division 1 swimmer in college) to homeschool and train up her 6 kids in the fear of the Lord; Joanna Biava is also a mother of 6, and an extremely intelligent and industrious women, from whom I have learned much by her example; Amy Marshall is a single mom of two adult/almost adult children and has been a model of faithful devotion to the Lord and a good example of what it means to be steadfast in prayer and to wait on the Lord in trials; Nancy Mee is one of my longest friends and never ceases to exhibit a humble heart and perseverence through difficulties, as well as joy in peaceful times, never taking her eyes off of Jesus; Babette Dorado was helpful to me with very practical things ifor managing my home and caring for my family – finding good deals, and keeping things in perspective as a new mom (about 10 years ago…!); Nanette Crabb is the most submissive wife and gentle women I’ve met, and that has impacted me (she’s also great at finding a good bargain, and has excellent tips for laundry and cooking!); my mother is an example to me of faithfulness to the Lord and is the most encouraging person I know; my mother-in-law has taught me much about the importance of relationships with people and making extra efforts to make people feel loved.

Q: What is something the Lord has taught you in the last year?

A: Looking back, I see the Lord’s kindness in gently drawing me to Himself as I wrestled with various doubts, worries, and fears. For 365 days, He faithfully gave me what I needed every 24 hours (as He has done for the last 36 years). Remembering this moves me forward into this new year with the motivation to give Him my daily burdens and trust Him, with hopeful expectation (thank you, Amy), for the grace I need for each day, knowing He will do what will bring Him glory and what will be for my good.
