Meet the Women at NAOBC – Laura Leon Machado
On Mondays, we’ll take time to meet the women of NAOBC. Five questions followed by how you can connect with the NAOBC women on social media. Today’s interview is with Laura Leon Machado.
Q: Tell us about yourself
A: I am a physical therapist. I moved to Kentucky to pursue an amazing job opportunity at a specialty clinic at Frazier Rehab, treating children who have sustained spinal cord injuries.
Two years ago (yep in the middle of COVID) Reydel and I got married in our backyard surrounded by all of ten people.
Afterwards NAOBC friends organized a drive by of the house to wish us well.
This year we added our daughter to our family. She has been a fun, sweet baby as we learn to be parents.
Q: Tell us about your time at NAOBC
A: I have been at NAOBC for nine years. I had just moved to Kentucky, and knew no one. I thought I remembered a friend of a friend (Amy) having moved to Kentucky so her husband could attend graduate school. I looked them up on Facebook and invited myself to church with them and stayed.
I am part of the Singles BFG where my husband and I serve as leaders and small group hosts.

Q: What is a fun fact that most people wouldn’t know about you?
A: All through my childhood, I was involved in ballets including: Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Peter Pan, and the Nutcracker seven times!
Q: What woman has made the most impact in your life?
A: My youth pastor and his wife were so informative during my high school years. Each summer they organized an internship called Timothy club where we would spend the day at the church completing different activities from setting up for Wednesday night youth service to learning how to serve those with special needs. The last thing we did was put on a youth service at our inner city location in downtown Little Rock. I still think back on Biblical and ministry lessons we were taught during that time as they still influence my actions and mindset to this day.
Q: What is something the Lord has taught you in the last year?
A: The pregnancy and birth of our daughter was not as we anticipated. As we journeyed through that time, God continued to show his faithfulness, answering our prayers through peace during anxiety. He also provided doctors and nurses who were able to advise us as we navigated these challenging times and ultimately saw us through, bringing our baby home.
Through this I was reminded, and my knowledge deepened, in how to trust God, leaning into His understanding away from my anxieties.
