Meet the Women at NAOBC – Katy Murphy

On Mondays, we’ll take time to meet the women of NAOBC. Five questions followed by how you can connect with the NAOBC women on social media. Today’s interview is with Katy Murphy.

Q: Tell us about yourself

A: I will celebrate 10 years of marriage to Aaron this July. We have three children – Anna Kate (9), Ezra (7) and Ava Claire (3). I’m originally from Mississippi and came to Louisville to attend SBTS where I graduated with an M.Div. in Theology. During this season of life I’m a stay at home mom.

Q: Tell us about your time at NAOBC

A: My family and I began attending NAOBC at the start of 2020 but for me it was more of coming back home. I was a member of NAOBC about 15 years ago and I’m so excited to be back with my family. We are involved in Intermediate Couples I and are so thankful for the friendships we’ve made in such a strange circumstance. We had only visited the class maybe two or three times before lockdown and yet these sweet couples called us and made sure we were involved in Zoom meetings and park gatherings during the pandemic. We could have easily fallen through the cracks because we were so new but this church went above and beyond and I’m so thankful. When the kids’ programming returned we were able to serve and teach elementary kids once a month.

Q: What is a fun fact that most people wouldn’t know about you?

A: I accidentally gave birth to Ava Claire at home. It’s a long story but basically I woke up to contractions and as we were packing to go to the hospital she just couldn’t wait and Aaron delivered (caught) her. He’s actually listed on her birth certificate in the doctor/midwife section. We had called 911 when we thought we were too late to make it anywhere and the fire truck and ambulance arrived but still missed all the action. The siren and lights woke up the older two kids who opened the windows as they assumed our house was on fire and “wanted to watch.”

Q: What woman has made the most impact in your life?

A: I have been very blessed to know many women who love the Lord and have taught me so much through the years. My own mother and my mother-in-law are both believers and I’m so thankful for them. I have several really close friends and I draw so much encouragement from them and the way they love the Lord and love their families.

Q: What is something the Lord has taught you in the last year?

A: The Lord has really shown me how valuable and important the church community and these friendships are – we are not meant to walk this life alone. I am so thankful for NAOBC and all of the sweet families we’ve grown close to over this year.
