Meet the Women at NAOBC – Jean Shuba

On Mondays, we’ll take time to meet the women of NAOBC. Five questions followed by how you can connect with the NAOBC women on social media. Today’s interview is with Jean Shuba.

Q: Tell us about yourself

A: I have been married to Zach for nine years this summer. We have two handsome sons that are five and four as well as a sweet nine-month-old foster daughter. I am from South Carolina originally and came to Louisville for Zach to pursue his Masters at SBTS which he completed in 2017. The plan was to head off into ministry but as I like to say, we keep “accidentally” accepting foster placements 😅. The Lord has had a crazy plan for us here in Louisville and doesn’t seem to be quite finished yet!

Q: Tell us about your time at NAOBC

A: I have been at NAOBC for seven years, and have been in YC6 since its beginning. I have been involved in the children’s ministry since day one and also different aspects of serving within our BFG. My favorite has probably been coordinating events and opportunities for fellowship.

Q: What is a fun fact that most people wouldn’t know about you?

A: I have a minor in packaging science from Clemson University, and can look at most recycle codes on the bottoms of different plastics and tell you what materials it’s made of.

Q: What woman has made the most impact in your life?

A: This is so tough. There are SO many. One would be Kelly Kaldenbach. In our first year of marriage she took me under her wings and taught me so much about being a wife, mother, and woman of the Lord. She would ask challenging questions while having me help her fold laundry and prep dinner and it was the most beautiful picture of living life together. She taught me how to bring people alongside you even when it’s crazy and she had four little people running around.

Q: What is something the Lord has taught you in the last year?

A: Again, just one?! That His plans are good, so good, even when our earthly minds don’t understand. Even when it is painful. Even when it doesn’t seem to make any sense. He is good, and his plans are good. He truly works all things for our sanctification and His glory. We have walked many painful roads over the years of infertility, failed adoption, and disrupted moves. BUT through every “why God?!”, He draws us to cling to Him and seek His goodness which is not based upon our circumstances in this life, but what He sent His son to do for us. And I can genuinely say I am thankful for every trial and tough situation, because without them I would not know the immense comfort and peace only He can give!
