Meet the Women at NAOBC – Heather Wilkerson

On Mondays, we’ll take time to meet the women of NAOBC. Five questions followed by how you can connect with the NAOBC women on social media. Today’s interview is with Heather Wilkerson.

Q: Tell us about yourself

A: I’m originally from northern Illinois, but have called Louisville home since 2015 when I moved here for college. I graduated from Boyce College with a degree in elementary education. I teach early elementary at Jubilee Academy in Pewee Valley. My husband Hunter and I met in college through mutual friends and recently celebrated our second anniversary. We enjoy hiking, traveling, and watching movies together. We love hosting people in our home and you will often find us hanging out with friends.

Q: Tell us about your time at NAOBC

A: I’ve been at Ninth & O for three years now. Hunter was already a member so I joined after we got engaged. Our BFG is YC3 and we’re so grateful for the wonderful relationships we’ve made. We love going out to eat and having game nights with everyone. Hunter and I serve together in the youth ministry. I’ve enjoyed pouring into the high school girls for the three years I’ve been at Ninth & O.

Q: What is a fun fact that most people wouldn’t know about you?

A: Something most people don’t know about me is that I love to sew and work as a seamstress at a bridal alteration shop during my summer breaks from teaching.

Q: What woman has made the most impact in your life?

A: The woman who has had the most impact in my life is my Mom. She loves the Lord so faithfully and sets a wonderful example of what a godly woman should look like in the way she serves my Dad, my siblings, and her church community. I’m so blessed to have her as my Mom.

Q: What is something the Lord has taught you in the last year?

A: This past year the Lord has been teaching me how to surrender to Him. I get stressed out and anxious about situations in life and He is constantly reminding me to give it to Him and trust that He is going to work it all out for His glory. When we studied the gospel of Mark earlier this year, the story of Jesus calming the sea and telling the disciples, “Do not be afraid. Why do you have so little faith?” strongly resonated with me. I’ve kept that verse in my heart this year to remind myself that God is in control.
