Meet the Women at NAOBC – Amber Cable
On Mondays, we’ll take time to meet the women of NAOBC. Five questions followed by how you can connect with the NAOBC women on social media. Today’s interview is with Amber Cable
Q: Tell us about yourself
A: The Lord was very kind to bring Matt and me together through a college ministry 13 years ago. In that time we’ve moved 7 times, lived in 4 cities, earned 2 master’s degrees, and added 4 children to our family. It’s been a wild ride. We moved to Louisville in 2015 for Matt to work on his MDiv and celebrated its completion in 2020. Our Julia (9) will leave her mark on the world, Gemma (7) is tender and independent, Judah (5) has the charisma to run for office, and Jaelah (3) is full of energy and smiles. I am currently CFO of the Cable Family and Project Manager for these four growing projects, but my background is in aging and I hope to work in the field again someday.
Q: Tell us about your time at NAOBC
A: We were drawn to NAOBC in 2016 as we desired to use our gifts in the church. We love the diversity of age, background, and culture at NAOBC. Matt has served as the BFG teacher for YC2 for several years, and I’ve graduated to elementary ministry alongside my kids.

Q: What is a fun fact that most people wouldn’t know about you?
A: My husband tells me I was born in the wrong era and that I’d be much better suited to our grandparents’ time. Meat sales at the supermarket get me every time. I use every last drop of toothpaste in the tube. And I maintain that the VCR is a totally respectable piece of technology (seriously…think you could invent it?).
Q: What woman has made the most impact in your life?
A: This is a very hard question for me. My first answer would be my grandma, mom, and sister, as each of them has shown resilience and strength in different ways. But for the past several years, I’ve been continually encouraged and supported by my dear friend (and bonus mom) Kathy Boyer, whom I met at Bible Study Fellowship. Just after moving to Louisville, we had a baby, spent time in the children’s hospital, and then I ended up in the hospital with the trifecta of a migraine, the flu, and pneumonia. Kathy barely knew me, but she visited me and took food to my family. She was the ACTUAL answer to a friend’s prayer and has been a constant encouragement through the ups and downs of these years in Louisville.
Q: What is something the Lord has taught you in the last year?
A: In the craziness of Covid and now the search for a pastoral ministry position, I’ve found peace in James 4:15 that “‘If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.'” We can plan, and toil, and hope, and worry, and strive, and earn, and reach. But the Lord will do as He will and we can rest in that. It’s been incredibly encouraging to be able to look back on the Lord’s track record of faithfulness throughout our marriage to always provide for our family, usually in unique and unexpected ways. I’m looking forward to what He has in store next.
