Meet the Women at NAOBC – Alysha Smith
On Mondays, we’ll take time to meet the women of NAOBC. Five questions followed by how you can connect with the NAOBC women on social media. Today’s interview is with Alysha Smith.
Q: Tell us about yourself
A: I am married to Collin Smith, who serves as lead teacher of our BFG YC3. We have been married for 5 years and have two children: Charlotte who is 3 years old and Emet who is just over 1.5 years old and a third child on the way that’s due by the end of March! I’m a stay at home mom who is fervently trying to raise and teach our children to honor Christ and his word! They make my days light and fun and I’m so thankful.
Q: Tell us about your time at NAOBC
A: We have been at Ninth and O for 5 years! We are originally from Michigan and moved to Louisville so my husband Collin could attend Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (which he recently graduated from in May, AMEN!) We have been a part of our BFG since then, Young Couples 3. I serve as Prayer Coordinator for our BFG and it’s an honor to intentionally be praying and checking in/ reaching out and growing strong relationships with all of the women in our BFG and be praying for their families and their needs; I love it! I’m a HUGE event and party planner so I jump at the opportunity to co-plan the various events our BFG has and love to host events when I can as well! My husband and I also served in nursery for just over 4.5 years and it’s such a blessing to work with all of the children and watch them grow from babies to pre-schoolers and up!

Q: What is a fun fact that most people wouldn’t know about you?
A: A fun fact that not many know about me is that I can speak Dutch and used to live in the Netherlands, where I was able to take my Dutch language courses while I was there! My love for good, quality food also stems from my love for Europe and it’s cuisine!
Q: What woman has made the most impact in your life?
A: The woman that has made the most impact in my life would definitely have to be my mother. She taught me to love fiercely and care for those around me, as if they’re our very own blood and family. Family isn’t just those whom we have a genetic connection to, but that of which we can connect with, pray with and for, befriend and simply love and she’s the BEST at teaching me that. I’m thankful for her servant heart and not just from being in the medical field almost her entire career, but because she genuinely cares for each and every person’s soul and well being! I love you mom!
Q: What is something the Lord has taught you in the last year?
A: Something the Lord has taught me in the last year is to be kind to everyone, in every moment and every time you can! This past year has been extremely hard on so many families and I’ve just seen God’s faithfulness and fruit in our family and our lives more than ever through us being kind and loving like Him. I’ve had many days this past year where I thought how could God use me? A stay at home mom? SURE ENOUGH, he’s brought neighbors, fellow shoppers (who just need someone to befriend them) and cashiers who needed a smiling family to walk through their lane. God can use the least of these for His glory and to glorify Him. That’s something I’ve truly learned this past year; be where you are and intentionally available, even when you have a plan to run through the store with two little children. Be kind, caring and available to receive what God has planned for you in those moments!
