Meet the Women at NAOBC – Allie Tipton

On Mondays, we’ll take time to meet the women of NAOBC. Five questions followed by how you can connect with the NAOBC women on social media. Today’s interview is with Allie Tipton.

Q: Tell us about yourself

A: I grew up in northwest Ohio and went to college at a small college in Indiana. After college, I worked at a Christian camp in southern Indiana as the activities director. After that I boomeranged back to my parents’ house and worked as a cook and server at a tea room. About eight years ago I was ready for a change and decided to move to Louisville with not much of a plan except for where I would live. Thankfully, the Lord quickly provided a job and I’ve been here ever since. After visiting several of the wonderful, healthy churches Louisville has to offer, I visited NAOBC and I’ve been here ever since. I met my husband James Tipton at NAOBC and we have two kids – Emmeryn (2 1/2) and Soren (15 months) and we are expecting our third child in early September. With the exception of some side jobs babysitting and cleaning, I stay at home with our kids.

Q: Tell us about your time at NAOBC

A: I have been a member at NAOBC for 7 years. I am in the YC7 BFG. This year I’ve had the opportunity to serve in VBS, kids choir and in the nursery. I love getting to know different kids and their families by serving in those areas!

Q: What is a fun fact that most people wouldn’t know about you?

A. I ate a deep fried tarantula at a street market in Cambodia

Q: What woman has made the most impact in your life?

A: I have been blessed to know and love many godly women in my life. Both of my grandmothers served their husbands in ministry sacrificially and with joy. My mom has been a wonderful example to me of a prayer warrior and has modeled what it looks like to seek to know the Lord more each day. She prayed with me to accept Christ when I was 5 years old after coming home from church having heard the gospel presented there.

I am also so thankful for so many women at NAOBC that I have gotten to know over the last seven years. I’ve had many conversations that I will never forget because of the wisdom shared with me in those moments. When I was reeling from being newly married and surprised by having a little baby a month before our 1st anniversary, I had so many women recite truths that my heart desperately needed to hear.

Q: What is something the Lord has taught you in the last year?

A: To sum up the last year, I would say that the Lord has taught me most about His grace and my need for it. Having two small children has shown me so many icky sinful patterns in my life that need to be plucked out. I am far less patient than I want to be and far more selfish than I should be. I know that God is gracious to show me my weakness and sin and that he will be faithful to give me the strength I need to choose his ways and not my own. I have also been challenged in the last year to keep trusting in the Lord’s provision. He is able to provide for all of my needs so much better than I could for myself and I must trust His timing and how He chooses to answer my prayers.
