Day 6 – Jesus’ Final Week – The Garden of Gethsemane

“Jesus and the disciples departed the upper room and proceeded to the Garden of Gethsemane to begin the events that would reverse what happened in another garden, Eden. While the Synoptic Gospels describe Jesus’ agonizing prayer in Gethsemane, John’s account plunges immediately from Jesus’ prayer in John 17 into His violent nighttime arrest.” (81)

Scripture Passages:
Matthew 26:36-46
Mark 14:32-42
Luke 22:40-46

Read Chapter 6 of Jesus’ Final Week

“The events in the garden leave the reader breathless. Jesus’ deep anguish of soul is unexpected, His prayer that the cup be taken from Him unforeseen, the betrayal of a friend unthinkable, the abandonment of His disciples shocking, and His nighttime arrest like a common criminal unimaginable. How could this series of events be God’s plan, God’s will? Yet, God’s ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are much higher than our thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9)” (89-90)
