Day 5 – Jesus’ Final Week – The Last Supper

“Thursday of Passion Week is known as Maundy Thursday in many Christian traditions. The reason is that the Latin term for “new commandment” is mandatum novum. Jesus commanded His followers “to love one another” on Thursday evening. The focus of the day is on Jesus’ Last Supper with His disciples.” (59)

Read Chapter 5 in Jesus’ Final Week

“One of the most important themes in this chapter is the sovereignty of God. At every step along the way, we see God’s will fulfilled. First, we find Jesus’ instructions to the two disciples concerning the preparation for the Passover meal, from encountering a man carrying a jar of water to the man leading them to the home where the meal would be eaten. Second, the text reveals Jesus’ prediction of the betrayal by Judas, and Jesus’ foreknowledge that all His disciples would fall away, and Peter would deny Him three times.” (77)
