No Week in the Word this week, but we are working on some really cool changes- stay tuned! We will have one next week!

After the Holy Spirit arrives, the Church is born. It’s an exciting story in Acts 2. The church is a gift to believers and the world. Though sadly, we don’t always view it as such. Jesus loves his church. We should love the church too.

The Holy Spirit Arrives

Jesus sends the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. Now God indwells his people! The Holy Spirit brings life. He emboldens and equips his saints for service. Praise God!

Where is Jesus

King Jesus suffered, died, was buried, and on the third day rose from the dead and left the grave. He appeared to hundreds over 40 days at different times and in other places. Then after 40 days, he ascended into heaven and was received by the Father so that all who are united by faith in him will be received by the Father into heaven one day. The ascension of Jesus is an important doctrine, and it gives us hope and reminds us of who Jesus is and what he has done.

Next Step:

The Next Step class is designed to help members connect to service opportunities within the church. During this 75 minute class, we discuss five questions: 1) Why should I serve?, 2) How should I serve?, 3) Where should I serve?, 4) What are the different ministry teams?, 5) How do I connect with a ministry team? A light breakfast and childcare are provided. Registration is now open for our upcoming class THIS Sunday, April 24, at 10:30 am.

Our Week in the Word comes from Peter Holmes, one of our College Group leaders.

Spring is here — a time of rebirth and renewal. Grass is growing, baby birds are hatching, and a new baseball season has begun.

Spring reminds us of new beginnings, but it is also a time of endings.

For many of you, another school term is ending, and, for some, an entire season in your life is ending with graduation on the horizon. Even in those moments, there is a new beginning.

We just came out of the Easter season where we celebrated life — life in Christ. This is the ultimate beginning. Christ is the author of all life, of all beginnings. Throughout the New Testament, there are examples of Christ giving new life. Sometimes it is a very literal and physical new life like Lazarus and Jarius’ daughter. Other times, it is a spiritual new life, like Zacchaeus and Nicodemus. Christ came to give us new life. Life that is abundant. Life that is full and rich. Life that is everlasting.

Spring does not always stay, winter comes. Grass withers, birds migrate, and baseball seasons end. Nothing stays around, and nothing lasts forever. The only thing that lasts is eternal life. As we go out of the Easter season and enjoy the spring season, we need to focus on the abundant life that God has given us.

As we mow the grass, remember how Jesus died for our sins so that we can have life.

As we listen to the birds chirp, remember how Jesus was raised from the tomb and conquered death.

As another school year ends and another class graduates, remember that we have life abundantly in Christ, and thank God for the new life that he has given us.

Doubting Thomas

As we share the gospel, we must be both prepared to give an answer for the hope that resides in us and have mercy on those who doubt. We didn’t reason ourselves into the kingdom. We were born of the Spirit, so we must pray for the Spirit to cause those with whom we share to be born again from above.

Jesus is Alive

The gospel authors all share resurrection accounts. The evidence is clear that Jesus Christ was raised bodily from the dead. Jesus is alive! Our response should be faith, repentance, worship, obedience, and evangelism.

The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus Christ

Good Friday. What is it that makes this day good? This particular Friday is the day Jesus Christ, a carpenter and itinerant preacher is condemned to the most excruciating and embarrassing form of death. He is sentenced to a criminal’s cross to die. All of this is part of the Father’s plan. Through the death of Jesus Christ, our sins have once and for all been dealt with so that all who look to him in faith might be forgiven. And that is good news and why we call it Good Friday.

Trial of the Ages

Undoubtedly you can recall where you were when the verdict of a specific trial was reached. There hasn’t been a more significant trial in history than the one on Friday of Passion Week, in April of A.D. 30. Jesus, an itinerant preacher from Nazareth, is put on trial and unjustly condemned.
