2014-15 Women’s Studies – Sneak Preview!

As we hope everyone has heard by now, NAOBC is casting a vision forward and many positive changes are afoot.  Starting in Fall 2014, we will have one unified Women’s Discipleship time on Wednesday nights during our regular activities.  Pastor Blake will be revealing the name of our church-wide Discipleship in the coming months, but in preparation for all of you who are curious about what we’ll be studying, we’re providing a sneak preview of the classes offered for women.  To give you some context about our new Discipleship strategy as a church, NAOBC is looking to grow and develop disciples through the various studies offered.  When you think about a disciple of Christ at NAOBC, what do you see?  You might see them serving in AWANA.  You might see them studying God’s Word with Dr. TJ Betts.  You might see them learning how to budget for their family.  You might see them learning time management as a busy woman.  You might see them learning about building a stronger marriage or parenting with grace.  As a part of the NAOBC family, you’ll have many opportunities to grow in Christ.

We’ll be conducting our Wednesday night studies much like we have in the past on Wednesday nights and Thursdays mornings – in small group settings.  Our leaders will be Jaylynn Cook, Heidi Love and Rose Booth – leaders who have been a part of our women’s studies both on Thursday morning and Wednesday nights.  Now for the preview of women’s studies….

The Friendships of Women: The Beauty and Power of God’s Plan in Us
By Dee Brestin
In the midst of deadlines, car pools, and breakfast dishes, it can be tempting to push aside your longing for intimate friendships. Why add something else to your schedule-and be hurt or disappointed again? Yet it seems that even in the busyness and struggles of life, we cannot ignore our ache to know kindred spirits. In The Friendships of Women, Dee Brestin encourages you to listen to your need for friendships and to find and strengthen those relationships. Relying on key biblical stories, Dee explores what the story of Ruth teaches us about “rapport talk,” how Luke celebrates the power of women’s intuition, and what we can learn about avoiding unhealthy dependency from one of the most significant friendships in the Old Testament.  Engaging, honest, and deeply personal, The Friendships of Women will inspire you to see your desire for friendship not as a burden but as a gift.

Brave: Honest Questions Women Ask

True Beauty
By Carolyn Mahaney and Nicole Whitacre
Whether it’s age-defying makeup or the latest diet fad, our culture continually tells women that beauty consists of flawless skin and a supermodel figure. In True Beauty, Carolyn Mahaney and her daughter Nicole Whitacre direct us to the truth of God’s Word, where we encounter an entirely different—and refreshingly liberating—standard of beauty. Offering a path to freedom from the false idols that society, the Devil, and our sinful hearts so often create, this encouraging book will help you exchange the temporary glamour of pop culture for the unfading beauty of godliness.

We look forward to all God will do in the lives of the women of NAOBC!
